Woodside Library

A like-for-like and upgraded boiler plant replacement at Woodside Library — an out-of-hours changeover that kept heating and hot water in continuous service and the library open to the public throughout.

The brief

Replacing the boiler plant in an occupied public building is a balancing act. At Woodside Library the plant had reached the end of its life and needed swapping — some like-for-like, some upgraded — but the library could not simply go cold or close its doors. Heating and hot water had to stay available to staff and visitors throughout.

What we delivered

Stein Group planned the changeover to run out of hours, sequencing the works so that heating and hot water continuity was maintained while the old plant came out and the new boilers went in. New controls were installed to modernise how the system runs, then the plant was commissioned and proven.

Because Stein self-delivers both the installation and the ongoing maintenance, the new plant was handed straight to our own maintenance team — the same people who will service it, already familiar with every valve and control from day one.

The outcome

New boiler plant installed and commissioned with heating and hot water kept live throughout — modern controls in place, the system safe and certified, and the whole installation handed to Stein's own maintenance to keep running for the life of the building.
